Education:
M.S., M.A.M, Ph.D. from the University of Georgia
DVM and Speciality in Poultry Production and Pathology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).


Research interests:
Clinical avian medicine; clinical and molecular retrovirology; epidemiology, detection, control and eradication of oncogenic avian retroviruses; epidemiology and control of infectious laryngotracheitis; viral pathogenesis.

Dr. Zavala is involved in clinical service to the poultry industry, research in avian diseases and teaching. His research involves avian tumor viruses, immunosuppressive disease and broiler breeders.Dr. Zavala interacts actively with the domestic poultry industry in Georgia, the United States and overseas.
