Dr. Zavala is a native of Mexico. He received his DVM and his Specialty in Poultry Production and Pathology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

Dr. Zavala also holds a Master of Avian Medicine, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Georgia. Dr. Zavala is involved in clinical service to the poultry industry, research in avian diseases and teaching. His research involves avian tumor viruses, immunosuppressive disease and broiler breeders.

Dr. Zavala interacts actively with the domestic poultry industry in Georgia, the United States and overseas.
